Old people over 70 years old, non-natives  members of the military forces on active service, professionals in the fire and police services, and "government officers" of federal, state, or local governments who are actively engaged full-time in the fulfillment of public obligations are the categories of people who are excused from federal jury service.

Also, anyone who "suffers or has experienced a mental illness, psychopathology disorder, psychological handicap or serious psychological handicap, and on consideration of that situation either is resident in a hospital or other similar institution, or regularly attends for treatment," according to a section on "mentally disordered persons," is prohibited from serving on a jury.
