The ideal time to prune roses is in the early spring or late wintertime, just as new growth is beginning. Depending on your environment, this could happen as early as January or as late as May
 to quickly prune a rose;
Use clean, sharp secateurs to cut off any dead or damaged stalks.
To create a "Open Goblet," remove any stems that are crossing each other.
Reduce the growth by a third of the last year to a bud that faces outwards.
Mulch afterward to make sure the Rose is fed and has a chance to revive.
