Before gaining widespread recognition as the damaged Vietnam War veteran Nick Chevotarevich in The Deer Hunter , Walken had roles in films including The Anderson Tapes, Next Stop, Greenwich Village , Roseland (1977) and Annie Hall (1977). He won the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his work. For his performance as conman Frank Abagnale's father in Steven Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can , he received the same nomination.
