Yes, hashimoto's can cause hyperthyroidism in some cases as it firstly causes enlargement of the thyroid gland and temporary overactivity of the thyroid gland or hyperthyroidism which is called hashitoxicosis. Then, it is almost always followed by development of hypothyroidism.
