Rheumatoid arthritis can cause different types of anemia as

  • Anemia of Chronic Disease due to inflammation which can prevent your body from using the iron to create new red blood cells.
  • Iron Deficiency Anemia which is the most common type of anemia in rheumatoid arthritis patients due to NSAIDs which is a medication used to relieve pain and help reduce inflammation. NSAIDS can cause ulcers or gastritis and lead to blood loss which in turn causes anemia.
  • Aplastic anemia which result some disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs)  as methotrexate which can cause damage to your bone marrow.
