The government sold NZ rail in 1993 for 328$ million to a consortium in which the U.S. firm Wisconsin Central was the prime shareholding.Since 1996 the NZ dependent which is famed as Tranz Rail, it was registered on the NZ and NASDAQ holding exchanges.
