Macconkey agar is selective medium as it has selective ingredients as the bile salts and the dye, crystal violet that inhibit the growth of gram-positive bacteria so, it is selective for non-fastidious gram-negative organisms.
It's also considered as differential medium as bacteria will appear differently based on the ability to ferment lactose.
