A rainbow is formed when sunlight passes through water droplets suspended in the atmosphere. Light waves change direction as they pass through water droplets, resulting in two processes: reflection and refraction. When light reflects off a drop of water, it simply bounces back in the opposite direction from where it originated. When light is refracted, it takes a different direction
