Apparently so - although it wasn't exactly as described in the movie .

Before his death in 1990,Dahl confided to friend Brough girling about the meeting between himself and Ms potter

Speaking to wales online ,mr girling said Dahl told him that when he was a boy he persuaded his mother sofie to travel to potter's home  in north England  .

He told me he want with his mum when he was six .he asked if he could go and see where she lived .

So they went up to the lake district .he come to the farmyard and recognised it ,which made him very  nervous .in jemima puddle -Duck the farmyard was actually Beatirx Potter's farmyard and he recognised that.

"He said it was like stepping into a page of one of his favorite books.

"Than he saw Beatirx potter's ,this old woman in her grande. and she said to him 'what do you want ?'

"He said' I've come to meet Beatirx potter's ',and she said ,'well, you've seen her .Now buzz off!'

"His wife said it's actually true .Roald had told her .and it's true Beatirx potter's was quite grumpy and not fond of children .he would have been six and she would have been about 80."

As shown in the dramatisation,Dahl did travel from Wales, where he grew up, to potter's hometown the lake District.
