It is a school of Hindu philosophy known as Mayavāda and it is also a classical system of spiritual perception in the Hindu tradition and the term Advaita refers to the idea that the true self, is the same as the highest metaphysical truth. Vedanta, with its roots dating back to the first millennium BC, is one of the most studied and influential schools of Classical Indian thought. Advaita is a philosophy or a spiritual path and not a religion, it does not require its followers to be from a specific faith or sect and has been influenced by many traditions and texts of Hindu philosophies such as Samkhya as well as social movements and adopts a set of idealistic views, including illusion, to realistic or semi-realistic attitudes, expressed in the early works of Shankara.
