It occurs before mitosis (before cell division).

Steps of replication include: 

1.Identification of the origin of replication.

2.Unwinding of DNA strand by DNA helicase enzyme.

3.Formation of replication fork.

4.Elongation by DNA polymerase enzyme.

5.Termination .

6.Post replication modification of DNA by methylation as an example.
