The proclamation of 1763 was when the French and Indian Wars, King George III issued a proclamation preventing colonists from settling west of Mount Appalachian. Through the proclamation, the king hoped to punish the people who did not stand by him during the Seven Years' War.

The Proclamation Line of 1763 was a British-delivered limit set apart in the Appalachian Mountains at the Eastern Continental Divide. Proclaimed on October 7, 1763, the Proclamation Line restricted Anglo-American homesteaders from choosing lands obtained from the French after the French and Indian War.
