we use the past simple or present perfect after since when since introduces an action or event at a point of time in the past.

ex:

They haven’t received any mails since they’ve moved house.

with the expression it + be + time + since we use the present perfect, the past simple or past perfect after since.

ex:

It’s years since I’ve ridden a bike

We use since + -ing form to refer to time when the subject of the verb is the same in the main clause and the subordinate clause:

ex:

Since leaving school, he has had three or four temporary jobs

We use since to give a reason for something

ex:

Since her husband didn't like holidays so much, she decided to go on her own.
