The Vatican was built in the 4th century A.D as a basilica over St. Peter’s grave in Rome by the Roman emperor Constantine who was the first emperor to convert to Christianity but construction of the present basilica that was initially planned by Pope Nicholas V and then Pope Julius II to replace the aging Old St. Peter’s Basilica began on 18 April 1506 and was completed on 18 November 1626.
