PFD(Personal Flotation Device) must be replaced if it shows signs of wear or damage like these:
- Replace it if there are rips, tears, discolored or weak material, insecure straps  or unreadable labels.
- check for leaks by inflating it orally. If it doesn't stay firm for many hours, replace it.
- If the PFD does not float, you should replace it
- Check the manufacturer's instructions for CO2 cylinder and other parts replacement, typically every 3 years.
- If the foam becomes brittle, compressed, or waterlogged, replace it.
- If the buckles, straps, or zippers are broken or not functioning properly, replace it.
