The Boers were South Africans of mostly Dutch, German, and French Huguenot descent. They Settled in southern Africa in the 1600s( the 17th century). The word "Boer" means "farmer" in Dutch as it specifically refers to those of earlier generations who were primarily farmers. They are part of a broader South African group called Afrikaners.
